Jean Daneel Directors Red

The Initial Red is from this vintage 100% Napier fruit, of which most are grown on the banks of the Klippendrift River. The other portion is from atop of one of the many high hills surrounding Napier.

This classical blend consist of two different varieties namely, Shiraz 95% & Merlot 5%.

Care was taken in selecting the best grapes and bringing it to the cellar early morning to keep them fresh and undamaged. The wine was made with the fruit of the grapes in mind. Cool fermentation followed on the skins and soon after the two components went into 5% new and 2nd & 3rd fill French barrels of 225L each. 24 months later the blend was made up. The 2 components were given ample time to marry their flavors and characteristics before bottling.

Alc.     :  12.5 %

Sugar   :  3.2

Acid    :   6.5

PH       :  3.42

Winemakers notes:

The wine is full of typical spice and pepper characteristics of Shiraz. Blue and black berries, liquorices, and spicy flavors, fresh and dried herbs with subtle tannins. Medium bodied with a dry aftertaste. It is a fruity wine with soft delicate tannins and shows great potential for further development in the bottle and will mature for the next 5-8 years.
